Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal, also known as the “Crown Palace,” for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. Construction began in 1631 and was not completed until 22 years later in 1653. Over 22,000 workers and 1,000 elephants were employed to construct the Taj Mahal. Nowadays, the Taj Mahal attracts 2-4 million visitors annually from countries all over the globe.
