This means there are more than 200 species of mammals, 9,000 species of plants, and 34,000 species of insects (just to name a few) that call Costa Rica their home. Costa Rica is not only rich in landscape, but also culture and history. Costa Rica prides itself on being the “Land of Peace” as they have had over 100 years of political stability and is the only country without an army or military of any kind. In 1949, they decided to abolish their National Army to invest their resources more in education and other improvements to benefit the people.
