Zookeeper of the Week 10/18: Zookeeper JoAnne

This week, we get to meet Zookeeper JoAnne! Aside from travelling and living all over the United States, she’s also working to compile a recipe book! Sounds yummy. Be sure to read on to discover more about Zookeeper JoAnne and find out what her favorite food is. It’s already making us hungry!

1. Where are you from?
I have lived all over the great U.S.A. After being born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, I have lived in Detroit, Michigan; Buffalo, NY; Chicago, Illinois; Los Angeles, California; Houston, Dallas and Austin, Texas; Atlanta, Georgia (only for a summer); Boston, Massachusetts; and Silicon Valley, California. I moved here on February 29, 1968 so it’s difficult to determine how many years for a Leap Day event (since that date only exists every four years)!

2. How long have you been playing Zoo World?
I started playing Zoo World one and a half years ago after I suffered a mini-stroke. I had minor paralysis on my left side and my typing skills were totally depleted, so playing Zoo World started out for me as a successful physical therapy exercise. I play almost every day!

3. What’s your favorite part of Zoo World?
I love learning about all of the animals. I had no idea there were so many animals worldwide. The provided informative blurbs about the animals help further my general knowledge of animals from land, sea and air.

4. If you could be any animal, what would you be?
The Giraffe, of course! I could really use the extra height. And, I hear they get a lot of sleep.

5. What’s your favorite animal-related memory? (a trip to a zoo? a favorite pet?)
When I was a girl scout we did all sorts of animal activities. When we were brownies, we went to the Zoo. What a wonderful place from a child’s point of view. We took horseback information and riding lessons to earn our horsemanship merit badge. But my most favorite activities was when we took special trips to the ocean. We would investigate tide pools and have to identify all of the little creatures and shells we found. I loved finding hermit crabs, starfish and sea anemone. Such a marvelous place for us to learn about the ocean and some of earth’s natural resources!

6. What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about playing Zoo World and FarmVille. Also, I knit, read, collect recipes (working towards compiling a recipe book), cooking for friends and family, and romantic and comedy movies and plays.

7. What’s your favorite quote and food?
Quote: “Work like you don’t need the money, Love like you’ve never been hurt, And dance like no one’s watching.” Food: Lobster and corn on the cob. Krispy Kreme doughnuts when they are still warm. Celery (go figure). Deviled eggs. Baked chicken.

8. What makes the world go ’round?
Love. Compassion. Conversations and communications. Understanding and patience. Patriotism. Helping others. Chill (and you know what I mean).

Thank you for sharing with us a piece of your life, Zookeeper JoAnne! It is an honor that Zoo World played a part in your recovery process and we’re grateful and happy to hear that you continue to play! We hope your love of learning and animals never waivers, so we can be with you along the way to help you discover more facts about exotic animals. We anxiously look forward to the completion of your cook book and wish you the best in all your endeavours! Thank you for being a part of the Zoo family!
